Psalm 66 has a definite and obvious evangelistic focus. The whole world is called to come and \u2018shout, sing, praise and see\u2019 how marvellous is the LORD. Specifically the great deeds of the LORD are highlighted, his rescue of Israel from Egypt and his rescue of Israel from exile (66:8-12). Both events are cause for giving praise to God and reminders that it is foolish to rebel against him. In the final section of the Psalm (66:13-20), we find the voice of an individual who has experienced salvation and now commits himself to a life of thankful obedience. What the LORD has done for him to rescue him from his enemies is for us to hear and another reason for us to praise. This is the voice of our Lord Jesus Christ, he who never cherished sin in his heart and he whose prayers were always heard (cf. John 11:41-42). His resurrection brought him to a place of abundance (66:12), and is proof that redemption is available to all who believe and a warning that rebellion is doomed (cf. Acts 17:31).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
