Psalm 58 is a prayer for the coming of God\u2019s kingdom. Couched in old covenant language, the rulers (cf. Psalm 82) of the day are asked whether or not they promote righteousness and restrain evil (cf. Romans 13:3-4). The emphatic answer is no. They have acted as if they are a law unto themselves, doing as they please, creating untold hardship for their subjects. David feels this pain together with all of God\u2019s people and longs for the day when all injustice will be gone. He longs for the day when the Messiah will rule accompanied by all those made righteous through faith. As such it is a prayer for the coming of God’s kingdom.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
