Psalm 50 is a song in which our Lord Jesus Christ summons us to covenant faithfulness in light of God’s grace. Beginning in the old covenant, the LORD summons his people (and creation) to a meeting. First, in response to the various sacrifices which they were bringing, he makes it clear that he is not a pagan deity that needs to be fed. Everything belongs to him and what he wants from his people is offerings of thanksgiving, a life of service in response to his electing love. Together with this encouragement, there is also a warning to those who are part of the covenant community but have no desire to submit to God’s law. God knows, God sees, God will bring judgement. Grace is not a licence for sin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
