Though most of this Psalm is intensely singular (\u2018I,\u2019 \u2018me,\u2019 \u2018my\u2019), the actions and song of the Psalmist are important for many people. What happens to him has a significant impact on others. To start with, he waits for a rescue from the LORD (40:1-3), a rescue that confirms to those watching that they too can put their trust in God. He then declares God\u2019s blessing on all who follow him by trusting in the LORD. In verses 6-8, he is once again acting alone. He understands that what God ultimately wants is not animal sacrifices to atone for sin, but the perfect obedient self-offering that sacrifices signify. And so he comes, the King who is willing to do the will of God, the King who offers himself as the sacrifice for the sins of God\u2019s people (cf. Hebrews 10:5-10). The result of his sacrifice is good news for the assembly (40:9). The revelation of a perfect righteousness that comes from God (cf. Romans 1:17), a righteousness that is by faith \u2013 a righteousness that is credited to all those who trust in Jesus Christ.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
