Psalm 27 is a song which contains many different themes which is why our Psalter (The Book of Psalms for Worship) has broken it into four parts:
1-3: Great confidence in the midst of hostility
4-6: A single hearted love for the LORD
7-10: A prayer for help confident that the LORD will hear
11 -14: Obedience whilst patiently waiting for the LORD\u2019s deliverance<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The themes identified above are ones which are well known to believers even as they also find expression in the life of Christ. Those who wait on the LORD will face times of great difficulty whether it is opposition to the Christian faith or the challenges of living in a fallen world. In those times we are to seek comfort from God, praying to him and trusting that he will hear us. Whilst we know that our confidence, devotion, prayer and obedience is half-hearted and lacking even at the best of times, we trust that the LORD hears our words for the sake of Christ who is perfect. We might not be able to fully express the words of this song, but we sing them nonetheless because they are words that the Spirit has given to work a confidence in us and encourage us in the Christian life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
